Citation Readiness Checker
Scan a page for the traits that make content easy for an AI assistant to reference accurately: clear factual statements, dates and sources, consistent naming, and passages that stand alone without needing the rest of the page for context.
How it works
Enter a page URL, or switch modes and paste draft content directly.
The tool reads the page’s factual statements — numbers, dates, names, and claims — along with its heading structure and sourcing.
It checks for the traits that make facts easy to reference correctly: specificity, consistent naming, visible dates, and passages that read clearly without the surrounding paragraph.
Review the pass/warning/fail checks and rewrite suggestions for statements flagged as vague, unsourced, or context-dependent.
Frequently asked questions
What does "citation readiness" mean?
Citation readiness describes how easy it is for an AI assistant to reference a fact from your page accurately if it chooses to — clear, specific statements with visible dates and consistent naming, rather than vague claims that require outside context to interpret. It is a readiness measure, not a visibility measure: this tool checks whether your content is in good shape to be referenced correctly, not whether any assistant will actually reference it.
Does a high citation readiness score mean ChatGPT or another assistant will cite my page?
No. No tool can predict or guarantee that a specific AI product will select, quote, or link to a given page — that depends on the query, the model, competing sources, and licensing or crawl decisions outside any single page’s control. This checker only evaluates whether your content is written in a way that would be easy to reference accurately if a system chose to use it. Be cautious of any tool or claim promising guaranteed AI citations or visibility.
What makes a factual statement easy to reference correctly?
Specific numbers, named entities, and dates stated plainly ("Founded in 2014" rather than "for many years") give an assistant something concrete to quote or summarize without guessing. Consistent naming — using the same product, company, or person name throughout rather than swapping in pronouns, abbreviations, or nicknames — reduces the chance a fact gets misattributed. Stating facts near the top of a self-contained paragraph, rather than dependent on a claim made three paragraphs earlier, also lowers the risk of a fact being lifted out of context inaccurately.
Why do dates and sourcing matter for citation readiness?
A claim without a visible date is ambiguous to any system trying to judge whether it is current — "our newest product" written in 2022 reads very differently in 2026. Visible publish or updated dates, and named sources for statistics or claims borrowed from elsewhere, help an assistant judge reliability and recency before referencing something. Pages that keep factual claims dated and sourced are less likely to have outdated or unverifiable information quoted as if it were current.
How is citation readiness different from AI readability or a GEO audit?
AI readability is about structural extractability generally — headings, sentence length, answer placement. Citation readiness narrows in specifically on the factual claims themselves: are they specific, dated, consistently named, and self-contained enough to be quoted correctly. A GEO audit is the broadest of the three, combining crawl access, structured data, and content signals (including elements of both readability and citation readiness) into one overall AI-search readiness score.
